Episode No. 012 · Plumbing
Ray Mercer
Mercer Plumbing & Mechanical
- Location
- Tulsa, OK
- Years in the trade
- 41
Ray started pulling wire and hauling pipe for his uncle at seventeen and never left. Four decades later he still runs a service call most Fridays because, as he puts it, you forget how the work feels if you only look at the schedule.
Their story
The story Ray tells on the show is about a repipe that went sideways in 2003 — a callback that cost him a year of profit and taught him how to write a scope of work. He talks about firing his biggest customer, hiring his first real apprentice, and the difference between being busy and being profitable.
